This is our first choice to go sit for a couple hours and enjoy a couple cocktails and appetizers on a sunny Sunday afternoon or slow weekday night. Great service and delicious food -- I've never been disappointed!

I've been here a few times over the years, but it wasn't until recently that I've eaten here. I'll start with the good: the place is really relaxing to just hang out and have a drink. By the way, the drinks taste stronger than your average cocktail and are made well and filled to the top. A personal favorite is the Woodford Reserve whiskey. They also have craft beers on tap and in bottles, including Dogfish and Diabolical. Great stuff. The live music is AWESOME. It's usually one or two guys playing acoustic guitar and singing classics, like Benny and the Jets and Mr. Blue Sky mixed with some 90s stuff. I like older music so this definitely fits my bill. They play right above the bar, too. It classes the place up. The food portion, or at least what I had on the menu, was alright. The chicken Caesar wrap didn't have enough chicken at all, and some of the chicken in it was burnt. I honestly had a better wrap in many other places, including Rosie's in Ferndale. The Caesar salad was good but again not the greatest. Their menu does have filets for $50 and things of that nature, too. I would try something else next time. The place also does reservations for big groups. We had plenty of people at one friend's birthday and we were there for hours. They were nice and got all the orders right. I like how the place is off Main Street and kind of quieter and more classy than most Main Street bars. You avoid a lot of idiots that way, too. When it's warm out in the summer the doors are swung open and it's an inviting atmosphere. It's a spot I've enjoyed over the years, and the drink prices are reasonable. Grab a drink with a friend and enjoy the music.

So disappointing. I came here last night for my bachelorette party dinner before we headed to the piano bar down the street. We made reservations a few weeks in advance for 15 people and requested to sit near the patio. All of that was fine, even the waitress was pretty good. BUT the food was horrible! Every single person that ordered a hamburger had it brought to them well, like charbroiled. I ordered the Mediterranean chicken- which was so burnt and dry that I couldn't even cut into it. The feta and artichoke topping was delicious. My sister ordered mushrooms on her burger and didn't even receive them. We did tell the waitress, but she didn't even offer to get us something else and really we didn't have time to wait another 20 minutes away. Maybe we just had a bad experience last night? I have heard and read pretty good things about this place, but I definitely won't be back anytime soon.

Great atmosphere -- the live music isn't too loud or obtrusive. It's especially nice in the summer with the patio doors open. Food is very good; just your classic American cuisine. The peppercorn sirloin is usually my go-to choice, but the lemon chicken and pot roast are also very good. Nice place to bring a date or just hang with friends for drinks and appetizers. Very underrated place in Royal Oak off the Main Street path.

Love the live music and outdoor seating. The salad was ok. Nothing to brag about. Great place to grab a drink. Pretty busy around the bar area.

My boyfriend and I went here tonight for Royal Oak Restaurant Week. I had never been but I had won a gift card, and the menu looked great. We started off with the red pepper and goat cheese appetizer, which was delicious. I want to come back here during happy hour now (half off apps!) just to have it again. Before we were done with it, our salads came out, and then the entrees before we were done with those, and so on .... Good service but there's such a thing as being TOO early. I had the spinach salad which had a fantastic vinaigrette and also dried cherries, as well as the 6 oz filet mignon. The filet was very good, and I took home most of my mashed potatoes and broccoli, as portions were generous. They were out of two of the three RORW desserts (SO sad about the lava cake, oh well) but we were offered alternates. We shared the Sanders cream puff and also a salted caramel brownie, which was INSANELY delicious .... It was hot and came with ice cream. This place isn't cheap but the food was very good. They also have live music at night and there's a small stage behind the bar area. I'd like to come back during happy hour as some of their martinis sounded delicious, and also have some of the half-off apps.

Went here for a late dinner last night to catch up with a friend. Live music was playing so we sat outside. Still could hear the music but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other. We started with cosmos, which were made perfectly. I got a burger with fries. Burger was over cooked but the fries were awesome. My friend got the salmon sandwich and said it was very good. I will definitely go back to try some of the other menu items.

Took forever to place order. Waited a half hour for bread (it was cooking). The lemon chicken was sub par. Sauce, artichokes and rice were well prepared but the chicken was tough and dry. We waited a significantly long time to receive our food. The waiter was more interested in his discussions with the hostess it appeared. We won't be back.

Both apetizers were excellent----the roasted pepper stuffed goat cheese and bacon wrapped scallops. At this point I was at a rating of 4 star. I then got the Dejon mustard coated white fish. Although it was tasty, it lacked moisture, it needed a good liquid Dijon sauce-----to put it plainly, it was dry. It also came with some really boring, yucky, tasteless broccoli. My wife had the same and thought it was better than I did. Others in our group said the tortellini was very good and the Sixth Street steak with added shrimp was excellent. We had two desserts to pass , a brownie and a pumpkin cheese cake. Both were great--but if I rated all restaurants by their desserts, most would be fives. Robert was our waiter and did an exceptional job

Atmosphere/cocktails: 4 stars, food was 0, so I met in the middle with 2. My girlfriend and I came in for a couple appetizers and cocktails. First of all the atmosphere was pretty awesome for a girls night. Live music, casual, we liked. And our service was great, waitress was awesome. Cocktails were really really good. Btwn the 2 of us we tried the OCG, vixen, pomegranate and espresso. And then there was the food... We started with the calamari. It was deep fried calamari rings served with bottled cocktails sauce. Seriously? We could have gone to the frozen food section at the grocery store and recreated. So then we went for the beef tips, which are served with pita chips, sweet pickles and horseradish. The meat was good, and cooked perfect. The pita chips seemed to be deep fried and are so hard they have the potential of breaking a tooth. Overall the dish had zero flavor. There was nothing enticing about the flavor it was meat, bottled horseradish and pita. That's it. So, we ended with the artichoke dip ~ even TGIFridays manages a decent artichoke dip, so this place certainly should be able to do that, right? WRONG. Was served with the same terrible pita chips and literally had no taste. None. Like not even the artichokes had flavor?! We were both disappointed.

We had been here a few years ago and I remember having a great dining experience. It seems now, the focus is on the crowd and bar scene. We were able to get seated right away, on a Saturday at 7:30, so that was a surprise, and the service and martinis were great. the dinners, though, were quite average. The house dinner salad offered no surprises. I had the tuna, which was a little over cooked, and needed the wasabi relish it came with for taste. My spouse had lamb chops, which he also said were just average. I believe the broccoli was frozen. Our friends had chicken Caesar salads, which they did enjoy. I liked the energy and the singer, but make sure you are not going for a quiet evening. I loved the open air! So, overall, a fun atmosphere and good service, but really average food.

Good food. Good wine selection. Good bellinis. Live music. Its in a great location in downtown Royal Oak. I'd go here any night of the week. My top food picks: Oak City Salad Lobster Ravoli

This place is crowded every weekend night whenever I walk/drive by. Why? Why? Have been here a couple times now cuz a friend loves it here so much that he's here a couple times a week. Frankly, don't know what the fuss is all about. It's a bar, they serve food/drinks, service the couple times I went wasn't that great as the servers' trips to the tables are few and far between. They have live music, guys behind the bar and up on a stage, but it's too damn loud. Even when you're shouting it's hard to hear. If it wasn't to meet up someone and they chose the place first, there's nothing that really makes this place stand out and makes me want to come back.

It's hard to beat Oak City Grille on a beautiful day. We've been here 3-4 times and always happy with the food, beverages and service. I love their salmon! It is bit pricey - a couple of entrees and drinks add up quickly so we usually go on a special occasion.

Went on a busy friday night. Thank god I made a reservation because it was packed. I really liked their bread basket (crunchy outside and soft inside), we all liked it so much we got seconds. I got the 6th street steak and it was really yummy (substituted mash potatoes instead of the fries). My friends and fiance for the lamb chop (she loved it) and the peppercorn steak (he likes my steak better, the flavor of his was pretty bland). I loved the live music atmosphere. It was not extremely loud but not quite either. The service was pretty good and whatever we asked for they were on it. I was surprised just because some busy places are not good with coping with it. Anyhow it was pleasant and we will be back!

The crab cake appetizer was delicious. And the bacon wrapped blue filet is to die for. Considering it was a packed evening, the wait staff was very attentive and accommodating. I'd definitely return. Next time I'll make room for dessert.

Love this place. My first time here and I plan to return as often as possible. Christian, Sarah, and Elise were some of the best when it came to service. Drinks were great, food was great, and prices were great. I live a distance, but plan to visit as often as I can. It doesn't get better than this! Royal Oaks at it's BEST! THANKS FOR SUCH A GREAT JOB!

Just dined here for royal oak restaurant week and it was AMAZING. Started with spinach, feta, dried cherry and walnut salad with a balsamic dressing. It was delicious, nom nom. For dinner my dad and I spilt our entrées, he had the filet and I had the lamb chops. Both of which were on par for the best we've had. The mashed potatoes and broccoli did not disappoint and it was hard to leave any on the plate. Finally for dessert we had the cream puff and lava cake. Both of which were tasty and delightful! We had the benefit of coming on Monday which I think helped in terms of noise level and ambiance. Nice and quite. The service was impeccable! Attentive, informative and was present but not overbearing. I cannot wait to visit this place again and again.

Consistently good experiences here. Friendly staff, phenomenal happy hour. Love the brie and spinach artichoke dip (I don't typically love this elsewhere, but this is different and OMG the pita!) for appetizers. I don't have much experience with their dinner entrees, but I am definitely a fan of their wine and appetizers, and you can't be the prices for happy hour. Good live music later on and usually a good crowd, too.

Let's see... The staff was friendly and prompt. For a Thursday, it was fairly busy, but they handled it well. A little less could be said for the live music. Just too loud for dinner music. His mic specifically. If it interferes with the tables conversation, it's too loud. As for the food? My guests Ceasar Salad with Salmon was fresh. Simple. Cooked properly. But, nothing out of the ordinary. Especially for a $15 salad. I had the Lamb Chops. They were cooked fine, yet Ill prepared. A LOT of bone splinters at the base of two of the Chops. Only discovered after a bite. A bit disappointed. Especially, once again, for the price. ($25) The decor was clean. Yet, decorations were ala Target's shabby-chic isle. Not bad, per say. Just not a genuine and as warm as they were going for. Bonus points for actual table cloths and linens napkins. It's not that I would not go back, I would try them again. It just seems like they are aiming (and pricing) high, but coming up a little short on delivery.

2nd visit, this time for sit down Surprise Birthday dinner. I was excited to try their grub but immediately was disheartened. They couldn't find our reservation and we were bombarded twice with the "are you sure this was the name of the reservation?" No sir, I am a "Reservation Crasher." The waitress was completely awkward and rude. At this point, my high apply pie in the sky hopes were 6 feet under. The only thing keeping me from walking out was watching 2 "first dates" happen at the tables surrounding me. I'm pretty sure one of them wasn't a "Tinder" set up. After graciously moving us to a table big enough to accommodate our party, and a new waitress (I literally said "Thank Goodness" out loud) things perked up. The food was amazing I recommend the Baked Brie appetizer with its yummy dried cranberries and the Whitefish. Cooked perfectly with an amazing crispy crust on it. Drinks were fantastic as well! Had my self a few Bellini's as a "man this work week sucked, go hard" treat. The only complaint I have about the new situation is the length of time that passed before we were presented with the," may I take your orders?" question. I definitely encourage a visit to the Oak City Grille, just double check your reservation before hanging up and I PRAY you get a good waitress! Drink and be Merry and enjoy the people watching!

Over the week-end went to Royal Oak's Arts, Beats, and Eats. Decided we didn't like the ticket thing where you have to buy tickets to purchase any food or drinks, so we went to Oak City Grille! Had a singer inside the restaurant and we were able to hear him from the patio area, which was really nice. Arts, Beats, and Eats is nice, but parking at $15 a pop and then the entrance fee - really, is it really worth it for mostly vendors to sell their wares. Take it a lot is beautiful, but very pricey, especially in this day and age in Michigan!!! Music is great, but I think this will be my last time that I go to the Arts, Beats and Eats in downtown Royal Oak. I enjoyed immensely the Oak City Grille though. We had wine and were able to people watch. Our server, Dana, was right on. The food looked great, but we had just eaten at Jimi's down the road somewhere! Next time I go to Royal Oak I will try the Oak City Grille for their food!

I have no idea how I haven't already posted for Oak City...it's easily my favorite bar in Royal Oak! Off the top of my head the words classic, elegant, subtle, local, and fun come to mind immediately. Not to mention that they know how to pour a proper drink above and beyond a rum and Coke. Case in point, their martini's are fantastic and quite possibly one of my two favorites in town. The food is also always a solid option. While I haven't eaten dinner here in a while I remember it being very good. I did have some bar snacks recently though, and I've gotta say that even their chicken strips are above average....sorry but I take my chicken strips seriously when I'm in need of a quick bite while working off the fun from the night before...Meaty, light breading and BTW great BBQ sauce and Honey Mustard here! But if you're feeling more adventurous there are plenty of really tasty options. The very coolest part of Oak City, besides Sean and the bar staff, is the stage that sits behind the bar....I've been to a few establishments that are laid out like this but this one surpasses them all, and I haven't ever been to a bad show here...it's always always a great time!

With the number of times I have been here I can not believe I have not yet reviewed Oak City Grill. Great place for dinner, appetizers or just drinks. They often have live music on the stage behind the bar. This can be loud, so it may not be for everyone, personally I'm a fan. I also like that during warm weather they open the front windows. All of the food I have had has been solid. For appetizers the crab cakes, spinach dip (even better as they serve their with toasted pita bread) and the baked brie are all really good. I generally get the salmon burger but without the regular sauce as it has capers in it (nasty little salty things). I lave also had their pasta, also good, and a huge serving. Friends have had the chicken dishes and said they enjoyed them. As far as alcohol goes, also solid. The drinks are poured well, they have a good wine and martini list. Christian is also an excellent bar tender!

I came to Oak City Grille with a friend I haven't seen in awhile for dinner. That alone put me in a fantastic mood The place was very loud. We were in the back along the wall which helped, but I still felt like I was yelling. The menu seemed uninspired and there were zero vegetarian options (here I go complaining about that again... jeez). We both ended up getting pasta dishes (he got the lobster ravioli and I got a tortellini with sausage) and split a bottle of wine. The pasta was good but not anything I didn't think I could make at home. Our service was a bit off... The waitress might have been new but she forgot a couple things and didn't check on us much at all.

Husband and I went on a Friday night. We didn't have reservations (which we probably should have done) so we ended up waiting for about 40 minutes to be seated. The bar was so crowded we couldn't even get up there for a drink. Once we were seated our waiter was prompt in serving us. He was great about refilling our drinks. Husband ordered a steak, which he enjoyed. I ordered the lobster ravioli with scallops and shrimp. The sauce was amazing, the scallops were melt-in-your-mouth good, but the raviolis themselves were just so-so. The seafood/lobster middle almost tasted like it was at one point freezer burned. That's really my only complaint. It was a little noisier than we would have liked, but again it was a very busy Friday night. The staff was friendly, and the live music in the background was a nice touch. The crowd is definitely 25-40 mainly, and very trendy. We would visit this establishment again.

It had been a while since we had been to this restaurant so we decided to give it a go over Thanksgiving weekend. I always had such great meals there in the past. This particular visit, my boyfriend ordered the filet and it was absolutely amazing. However, I ordered the whitefish, and it was mediocre at best. My fault for not saying something to our server and perhaps it was just an "off" day but I didn't enjoy my meal as much as he did. Nevertheless we will be back to try other entrees. And I will update my review at that time. I will say that our server was really very nice and the ambiance was great. I would recommend calling for reservations on the weekend though, just in case. We arrived just before 6pm on a Friday night and all of the booths were reserved - not a big deal, but it just made me think that calling ahead next time might be a good idea. Happy Dining!!!

I would give this place 5 stars but they were sort of weird on the phone. I was told that it would be a 30 min wait if I came at 7:30 and that they were no longer taking reservations. We decided to come anyways and half the restaurant was empty. I thought that was frustrating.... Anyway, they were able to seat us pretty quickly which as good, however, I think this was due to the bad weather. Server was nice. Friendly and attentive. THE FOOD: I thought the bread was really good. Tomato bisque was good- big bowl. Tasty. Creamy I had the cajun salmon sandwich. I thought it was good... I think they could have used a better bun, it was just a normal hamburger bun. My friend had the grilled tuna and I would not recommend that. It tasted like it was frozen before hand and was pretty awful. The other people had salads at our table and they were huge. I would probably get one next time- they could totally last for 2 meals. Wine list was good- extensive liquor list as well. I thought the wine was super cheap (always a good thing). As we were leaving there was some live music starting up. I liked that but it was pretty loud. I would come back.

I asked the waiter what he would recommend out of 3 items on the menu. He told me what he thought of the 3 items I chose and then told me get the Lemon Chicken, which was not one of my three original choices. I now ask the waiter/waitress their recommendation at every restaurant I try. That Lemon Chicken ranks in the top 5 best meals my taste buds have ever indulged in. Addicted to that dish. The live music is also really fun and creates a fun atmosphere.

Last night, my best friend celebrated her bachelorette party. We started at Oak City for dinner before our evening's debauchery. I called last minute, and they easily accomodated our party of 10. I had the chicken cesar salad, so I can't really judge the food, but my salad was great . The other girls liked their food quite a bit, too. During the summer, the front of the restaurant is open, which gives the restaurant a breezy, relaxing vibe, with lots of natural lighting. Entrees are $15-$20. I'll definitely be back.

I've been coming here for years and have NEVER been treated so RUDE at any restaurant in my life. All I wanted was a drink at the bar after a long day at work. At 7pm on a Friday all the seats at the bar were taken but 2 high tops were open. These have ALWAYS been open seating but when I sat down at a one IN THE BAR I was immediately informed by the FAT asshole working there that the table I wanted to sit at was "reserved" even though they were completely unmarked. I was told "This table is reserved but you can sit at the bar" I then pointed out that there were no open seats at the bar and the fat asshole said "well then have a nice night." I left immediately and went somewhere that wanted my business. F#%^ YOU Oak City Grille. I was going to order food and some beers but you just lost a loyal customer.

Would not recommend this restaurant at all. There is nothing special about it and we felt it was a waste of money. The salad dressing is brought in a plastic container. I ordered the mediterranean chicken which came with green beans on the side. I'm pretty sure the green beans were just unfrozen and put on the plate. there was no taste to them at all. The salads are just romaine lettuce put on a plate. The website definitely makes this place look fancier than it is. there are plenty of other places to go in RO.

Have not eaten much here but I hear is great. I love the live entertainment here. Thurs thru sun. Usually Fri and Sat is the best. They have someone doing an acoustic set. Always great. The crowd is 30 somethings so no kids that just turned 21. Good bar staff to.

This is a follow up to my previous review - RUDE SERVICE. After this review, I will stop harping on this place but I just feel there are WAY too many restaurants in the world to put up with poor/rude service. The next day after I was Pretty Womaned, I called and spoke to the manager. He was friendly enough but really didn't seem to care much. I spoke with a friend of mine who eats there ocassionally and she told me she had a VERY rude waitress one night as well. The only reason her and her husband go back is because the manager was very helpful when they complained and they got free drinks and desserts. Anyway, after reading other reviews about this place, it just seems that rudeness by their employees is not only tolerated, but perpetuated. I don't see why places like this are able to stay in business.

While I've had dinner here a couple times, this review primarily focuses on hosting a private party at the restaurant. Two co-workers and I were tasked with hosting our work holiday party for about 70 people. After talking to a few other locations, we chose OCG because they were willing to open for a lunch event and we got the whole restaurant to ourselves. That in itself was pretty awesome. They were super-flexible with the menu, allowing us to substitute a vegetarian option. We also have one vegan co-worker, and they allowed him to pick out any item from another local restaurant that offers vegan options and they picked it up *and* plated it for him. I don't know a lot of other restaurants that would be willing to go that far to please one customer. There was plenty of food (it was a buffet, and my co-workers have once been referred to as "locusts" when it comes to their ability to consume). They also allowed us to bring in desserts (from Holiday Market, yummmmm) and took them out of the boxes and sliced and plated them. We brought in an ipod full of holiday music, which they plugged into their system and played throughout the restaurant. After the party was over, they also boxed up the leftover food (both from the buffet and the desserts) in individual servings so people could take home a little treat for later. Christian (our main contact at OCG for planning the party) was incredibly pleasant and friendly and he went above and beyond in terms of assisting with logistics. In fact, the party went so well our boss told us that she would give us a raise to plan the party again next year (it rotates to different people every year, and she's up to bat next). For the level of service, I found the cost was totally affordable--we paid $1600 for 70 people, including tax and tip. I don't think there's anywhere else in the area you'd get the restaurant to yourselves and that level of service for that price. If you're looking for an easy, stress-free party planning experience for a large group, I'd definitely recommend seriously considering this place!

Great atmosphere, with good (if not spectacular) food. In the Winter, it's warm and inviting, with dim, cozy lighting. In the Summer, the front of the restaurant opens up and makes the whole place open, bright and pleasantly breezy. Definitely a cool ambiance, with a generally un-douchy clientele. And it's one of the few places in Royal Oak with live music, which reaches out to the room from an interesting and unique perch above the bar. The food compliments things nicely. As stated above, it's good, reliable stuff. There are options for a wide range of tastes, with solid appetizers like the roasted red pepper, crab cakes and baked brie, and decent entrees like chicken penne pasta, beef pot roast and Oak City chicken. With that said, they're not exactly reinventing the wheel with any of it, and the menu rarely changes. There's likely nothing that will leave a lasting memory, or cause anyone to shout praises from the rooftops. But like I said, the main draw is the ambiance and live music. The food is a dependable compliment.

Service was super attentive and drinks were good despite a busy bar the night before Xmas eve. Dude who plays the guitar and sings was amazing and super entertaining. Spinach-artichoke dip was terrible tho. Avoid that and go for the bacon-wrapped scallops instead.

Went here last night with a girlfriend and had a good time. Pounded a few bottles of white wine, and ordered the fried brie with honey and walnuts and dried cherries. DELICIOUS. I highly recommend you try this. Our waiter was very sweet and attentive. There was live music which got a little loud...it was really hard to talk over the music. Really busy, hoppin' atmosphere. I'd definitely come here again for another night on the town.

Atmosphere is great and location is great. That's why I'm giving it 1 star. Food is terrible, tasteless, and expensive for what you get. If I ever come back, I will have a drink, but never eat here again.

Friday night. Live music, good. Very crowded with 30 somethings having a good time, good. Result- slow service and too loud to have a conversation. If you want a cool place where you don't have to talk to your date, this is your spot. Draft beet selection limited and food isn't anything to talk about. Needed one more server on the floor.

This place is always the "go to" for a definite good time. The goat cheese and red pepper appetizer is to die for!! Drinks are always great, and staff is super friendly. Christian is the best bartender in town!! The "real deal" behind the bar. The window tables are open to the sidewalk for a wonderful view. When you don't feel like taking a risk, and just want everything to be done just right, this is the place. Food, drinks, music, and staff are all 5 star..... *Pineapple infused vodka is amazing!!!!

This is a classy bar. There's a live band playing and they are stellar. The food is top notch and the bottle beer selection is pretty good although they lack a selection of draft beers. I will be coming back here real soon.

We popped in late for a drink A number of my friends like this place and I have never been. It was busy and was very hard to get our waitresses attention. The music was extremely loud and not very pleasing at that. What was a bummer is the waitress talked m out of a drink I had had before because she said it was bad. Might go back to try the food but won't go back to the bar.

Royal Oak is not really known for fine dining. In fact, I had given up on Restaurant Week since most of the places I checked out this year were underwhelming. This place pulls off a pretty cool scene. On Friday night around 10pm, the bar was crowded and the live entertainment (a duo of cover guitarists) were already at it. I managed to snag an open table and get wait service. Considering that the bar was already going, I was surprised that the service was attentive enough. I ordered the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. It was one of the best steaks I have had since moving here last year. The molten chocolate cake was a perfect way to wrap up the meal. By the time I was done, I was so pleased that I was singing "Wonderwall" along with the guitarists.

Returned last night and had the spinach salad with blackened salmon, which was excellent. The complimentary bread was okay but plentiful. We had some snickers pie to end the meal which was reasonable The service was very good. An overall step up and star up from my previous experience.

I had not been to Oak City Grille in years, but remember loving it! I still loved the bar atmosphere, but once we made it to the table it was all downhill! Our waitress was awful and incredibly rude when we asked about vegetarian dishes. She told us we could order a side of mashed potatoes for dinner. No joke. I would go for drinks any day, but would be hesitant to go for dinner again.

Love the live music. Easy listening w/ live singers playing real instruments, not DJs blasting house music. Food is decent, but I mainly go there for drinks and I'm never disappointed.

Just having drinks, enjoying the live music, and watching the Tigers play the Red Sox. Great place to do all three.

Service was good but the food was terrible. The mushroom soup was like eating a bowl of thick gravy. My friend and I both ordered it, and the only way either of us could eat it was by dipping our bread in it and eating the bread. Next we had the crab stuffed mushroom appetizer; this was bland except for a slight fishy taste from the crab. Our entrees were the chicken sausage tortellini, and the barbecue chicken pizza, which were both underwhelming. The tortellini was so flavorless that we couldn't tell what it was stuffed with. The sausage was just okay, not great, and the sauce was extremely under seasoned. The pizza was a complete failure as well; the crust was too thick for the size of the pizza and the amount of toppings on it, and it was under cooked! The "spicy citrus" barbecue sauce was not spicy at all and frankly just tasted weird. In summary, Oak City Grille was a huge waste of money and I will never be returning.

I come up here to watch the band "Just Us 2". Every time I come up here the service is outstanding, if Im ordering from a server or the bartender. The bartender is actually really good, I cant remember his name he always works tuesday nights. The food is good to. I had the salmon sandwhich and it was cooked perfectly. This one of my favorite places to go in royal oak.

Best Happy Hour in town, 4pm - 6pm, Monday - Friday with half off their delicious appetizer list. I'm so in LOVE with the roasted red pepper with goat cheese & grilled pita triangles appetizer! It's so enjoyable sitting at the tall tables along the windows, ESPECIALLY when warm, as they're completely open to the outside! Such great people watching!

Oak City has become a regular haunt for my friends and I for 3 reasons. 1. The atmosphere is always warm and entertaining without the loud ostentatious crowds that frequent places like Douche Finn. 2. The food and beverage selection is amazing. And if your a regular and like a certain wine, they will make sure to stock it for you. 3. Christian is the absolute best server in Royal Oak. He always has a smile, a good joke and will assist you in getting out of a bad first date! ;-) he remembers all his regulars and makes the visit that much more entertaining!

Oak city continues to be a disappointment in their staffing. Last night topped the charts. After leaving the bar, my husband and I went back as I forgot my coat for the long ride home on our bike. The staff was no help and actually "hid" it when I came back 5 min later. They were having an after hours party with the staff and friends at 2;20am....after WE found my coat, and mentioned that it was pretty rude, the whole staff ganged up on my husband, threatening to call the police(!). The staff really needs to be revamped here. Everyone is rude. This isn't the first time we've been unhappy with staff. Great food, but for now on, I will not be giving my money to such a poorly staffed restaurant. I will tell my friends and family and anyone else who will listen about our experience as well. Their are many other restaurants and bars with a great staff in royal oak to choose from.

Oak City isn't exceptional in terms of food or service but the atmosphere is nice and they often have live music playing in what looks like a puppet theater stage above the bar...hee hee...it's a bit small... ;) The food isn't anything you haven't seen before. It's one of those places that you know will have steak and burgers and salmon & rice pilaf. Their food isn't going to win any awards but it's nicely done. My husband and I split the roasted red pepper stuffed with goat cheese appetizer. It was yummy, can't go wrong with goat cheese in my book. The pita points to dip with were nice and firm without being tough too. For dinner, I got the Maurice Salad. It was a bit overly dressed with the thousand island dressing...so much so that it took away from the turkey and swiss mixed in. The sweet pickles kind of fought with the flavors in the salad too, they seemed overly sweet to me. It was a decent entree salad but nothing I'd rush back to order again. Actually, Mt. Chalet II has my favorite Maurice Salad. It's not commonly on menus and I really like it, so if I see it I usually get it. My hubs was very happy with his steak. The flavors were really great and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. Oak City Grill works for a nice night out, especially in the summer & when they have live music playing.

I've been here twice. A lot of people told me they're food wasn't that great, but I wanted to check it out myself. The first time I went here I had the peppercorn steak. I thought it was great. My boyfriend did not like his meal. He thought it wasn't worth the price for what he got. That is what other friends had told me--it wasn't worth the price for what their meal was. I went there again. The service is fine. The restaurant is way too loud because there is nothing to absorb the sound. I ordered the tuna. It was the worst tuna I've ever had, especially for $20. It was over cooked, it tasted fishy, and everything was bland with no seasoning (it came with rice and broccoli). I've had better meals at Applebees. I had my friends try the tuna and they all said to send it back. There are a million other better restaurants in Royal Oak, I probably won't go here again.

Upon entering the grille we were promptly greeted at the door and the hosted attempted to seat us in the furthest darkest seat in the restaurant. I assume she thought I was on a first date and needed some privacy or perhaps I was just having a bad hair day. Once I voiced my dissatisfaction she seated us in a more favorable spot in the bar area, one with light and the sound of other people's voices. I watched the happy faces of people eating and drinking while I sat without so much as a "Be right with you." In all fairness, my server could have been predisposed. I like the word predisposed because frankly I don't like the idea that someone serving me food even uses the restroom. Once our server did arrive though she was very attentive and professional. I ordered the Almond Shrimp app but they were out of it. Seven O'clock on a Friday night and you run out of a shrimp app? I ordered the New York Strip and my dining companion had the Filet. Both were outstanding. I don't even want to know what was in the mashed potatoes because they were so good that whatever ingredients were added couldn't possibly be good for me. This place has a pretentious feel to it but the prices are not bad at all. Two great dinners, some cocktails and some wine all for under $100.00. I'll be back and I'll want my shrimp app.

My first experience here was 5 stars. The service was good the music was great and the Pinot grigio and baked Brie were amazing! The Brie was more like dessert which is exactly what I wanted. I look forward to our next visit.

Love the live music and classy atmosphere! This place does not feel like a lot of other RO places, maybe because the crowd is older and more sophisticated as compared to a Mr. B's. I came here twice in one weekend I liked the atmosphere, service, and drink specials so much. Would love to return for the food...looking fwd to reading everyone's reviews on the menu!

I've been here 2 times for dinner and had 2 different experiences. The first time, I was with my best friend so I looked forward to a nice long relaxing dinner while catching up on girl talk. I ordered the red pepper goat cheese appetizer and it was fantastic. I ordered the fillet mignon for dinner and it was perfectly cooked & seasoned with their famous "zip sauce." What bothered me though was the way the waiter was practically chasing us out the door. Now I know we took a long time (probably 2 & 1/2 hours) but we were drinking, eating, & spending money. (Not just taking up a table while drinking water.) He literally came over and said "Are you guys pretty much done cause I have a party of 8 that needs to sit down?" Wow, excuse me! So I gave the place a 2nd chance & went there for dinner 2 weeks ago. The waitress was okay but could've been more attentive. Sometimes we felt like a nuisance instead of a valued customer. I had my usual fillet mignon but this time it didn't have as much flavor as it did back in June when I last ate here. ??? I also ordered the crab cake appetizer and it was dreadful. I felt like Gordon Ramsey picking it apart. It was all mush!! Totally gross.

Recently, I made my second journey to the Oak City Grille. My impression was pretty much the same as the first time I visited (which was actually right after they opened!) The atmosphere is nice; a little on the dimly lit side, but relaxing. The service is always very attentive, and the Godiva chocolate martini I ordered was perfectly made. As far as the food goes, personally I think the appetizers have the entrees beat hands down. Check out the roasted red pepper stuffed with goat cheese, it's absolutely wonderful. I also recommend the calamari (not too chewy or dry!) and the bacon-wrapped scallops. I'm not saying the entrees are terrible or anything, but I think they could hold a little bit more of a "wow-factor" for the price. I wouldn't rule this out for a stop after work for drinks and an appetizer.

Went here tonight because everything else was booked. I can say I was pleasantly surprised. I've been here a few times for drinks only and always wondered about the food. We started off with their roasted red pepper appetizer. It's a roasted red pepper stuffed with, I believe, goat cheese placed under the broiler and served with pita. The dish was an excellent start to the meal. For the main course, I opted for the lamb chops. These were perfectly cooked medium rare, like I requested. The chops were topped with a nice sauce. It's hard to describe it, but it matched the lamb perfectly. The chops were served with vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. I will certainly be back to try other dishes.

While I admittedly have never ordered dinner at OCG, I've had appetizers and gone for drinks several times. I've always been pleased with the atmosphere, low key and comfortable. The wait staff have always been top notch in my experiences, and most recently, the bartender was all that you could ask for. Not a huge selection to choose from as far as their tap selection, but good enough for sure.

Good: Great place to have a drink after work. They have blue cheese stuffed olives...crucial for a yummy dirty martini. Cool set up with live music behind and above the bar. Neither good nor bad: Usually always draws an older croud..35+, which isn't bad - idiot Royal Oak bar hoppers kids usually do not come in here, which is quite nice. Bad: The food here is terrible. Nothing vegetarian on the menu except the ceasar salad - which is middle of the road. There is ONE veggie friendly appetizer. All of the meat/poultry/fish dishes are served with under seasoned potatoes and a crappy veggie medley without much flavor...in fact the beans in that medley seems like the wax beans from a GFS can. Waitresses are generally unfriendly and not quick to help with modifications to dishes. For the prices....it should be better food, MUCH better food. To boot, the portions are small. I'd catch a drink here and then walk to a better restaurant. You'll get much better food across the street at Pronto!.

Let me start this off with it was nothing to write home about, but it wasn't terrible either... Oak City Grille had good quality food and the brief time we were inside, the music was very nice. We chose to sit outside and people watch however. I didn't particularly care for our waiter at all -- He was VERY attentive, but almost pesky -- and a bit attitudinal, like he was trying to rush us outta there lol. He definitely interrupted, rather than assisted our dining experience.

My go-to place in Royal Oak. The food and bar are great. Great Live music almost every night. Good upscale ambiance without the upscale prices. Friendly staff. Been there dozens of times and I have nothing bad to say.

The food was great, the ambience was great, the service was average. Ordered was the roasted pepper app, the crab cake, calamari, lambchops, tuna over a wasabi salad, the filet, the lobster pasta, the oak city salad, and two kid cheeseburgers. All was outstanding, though they had to take another shot at the lamb which came out overdone the first time. It was worth the wait for the lamb- I've only had better at The Lark. The server was friendly enough, but seemed far too busy though she didn't have many tables. The kids didn't get a refill, but the adults got some. Lost a star for the average service (the food and check were slow, also) and the lamb redo, but everything tasted great. Will absolutely go back again, probably without kids.

I came here for dinner on a Sunday night, had the spinach salad with walnuts and vinaigrette which was good, and had the scallops wrapped with bacon which was wonderful! On a Sunday night, looks like there's a lot of regulars here...a good sign. But I am not impressed with the cleanliness of the restroom, for example, the paper towel dispenser is dirty...

Chicken was very tough, tasted like it was microwaved. Seasoning on crab stuffed mushrooms was harsh. Wish I could say better. Sub par food which is a shame because my wife and I had our wedding reception there when it was Woodruff's. Ambience is still the same, but the menu is not as good.

Had I not had my last trip to Oak City I probably would have gave it a 4/5. My past experiences had all been pleasant, whether it was to stop in for a meal or for some drinks on the weekend. However, this last time I struck out. I opened up with the crab cake appetizer. For whatever reason I've been on a crab cake kick as of late, but I think Oak City shook it. I've had some good cakes a lot of places recently. All pretty good and unique in their own way. The crab cakes at Oak City were just balls of mush. Over crispy on the outside in my opinion and just mush on the inside. I found them to be bland as well. Overall, I found the description of "pan-seared jumbo lump crab" to be misleading. My entree was a disappointment as well. I went with the Yellowfin Tuna which unfortunately was served over a sea of hoisin sauce. The tuna was said to be served rare as is, which is wasn't. The rest of the dish was almost uneatable. The ginger hoisin sauce was so plentiful I didn't get very far with the noodles and vegetables. I forced down the overcooked tuna and went on my way. I'm not writing off Oak City because like I said I have come before and had better and I even sampled my girlfriends dishes (scallops wrapped in bacon app and pot roast dinner) and both were pretty good. Give Oak City a try, especially if you are looking for a good spot to have a few drinks, but if you come for dinner, stay away from the Yellowfin.

This place has a great atmosphere, good lighting and good music. The drinks are generous and fairly priced which is a plus. The food is pretty good and probably a 4 out of 5 for the price, but we mainly go there for appetizers, drinks and entertainment. The age range is anywhere from mid 20s to 50s, but the majority of the people seem to be in their 30s which is perfect for us. My favorite place in RO!

It was almost empty when we ate dinner at 6pm, but by the time we left at 7:15 most tables were occupied. Everyone's food was very good. I had peppercorn steak. It had a delicious sear, slightly charred, and perfectly medium rare inside. My date had chicken sausage tortellini that was very good and the other couple split spinach artichoke dip that was excellent. (they had a late lunch or something- would not be enough food for 2 people to eat for dinner.) I would rate it as $$$, but the food is worth it. It was $60 for the two of us to have dinner and a couple drinks each. We could have spent nearly that much at many places in Royal Oak for food that would not have been nearly as good. They have a good selection of wine by the glass, but not a fairly limited selection of beers on tap. Great spot for a nice dinner in Royal Oak.

This place is acceptable, which is better than a lot of other choices in the area. There were 4 of us and we had burgers, salads and one person had the steak. All was fare; burgers were pretty good, steak was acceptable.

This restaurant is a mixed bag. Five of my friends and I recently had dinner here. For the most part the food was good but some of it was simply terrible. The bad: The waitress, the salads, and lack of veggie options. The waitress could take a course in kindness and patience. She would come to our table and just stare at us and then pick the most inopportune time to interrupt our conversation. Our waitress rushed over with the bill even though she knew we were not in a hurry to leave. The restaurant was not busy and it was not late. She was just plain rude. Someone in the party order the Maurice salad which was small and a plate full of yellowed lettuce leaves. The are tons of yummy meat options but if you are a vegetarian be warned you can have salad or one pasta option. A pasta option swimming in melted cheese, so if you like your pasta drowning in cheese and oil you'll love this dish. The good: The atmosphere is open and relaxing. A nice, large bar is at the center of restaurant with bar setting on one side and the other is lined with booths and tables. The dishes that were very good: the spinach dip appetizer and the Salmon (cooked well). Overall, nothing special or memorable about this place.

I was here on a Friday night for a friend's birthday. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! First off, though the live entertainment is a nice perk, the music was WAY too loud!! We had to yell over it! Second, we went there for dinner and the waitress was horrible! When we asked for more straws and more napkins, she just sneered at us and walked off. She came back with them, but boy was she unhappy that she was being asked to do her job. When she was asking us for our orders, a few people from our party of eight were still chit chatting. She walked up to them and said, "excuse me, are you ready to stop talking now?" like she was chastising little kids for talking during a movie. It was ridiculous. The food was taking so long that I needed to leave to feed my parking meter. When we came back in, they were carding people. I was scurrying through my purse to find my ID, but was not able to locate it (little girl, big purse). The "bouncer" (a puny blonde guy on a power trip) gave me the stare down like I was some teenager trying to sneak in. Yeah buddy, I'm really trying to sneak into the oak city grille to order a steak and no alcohol on a Friday night. I explained to him that my food was at the table getting cold; he didn't care. I explained to him that I'd been sitting there for the past hour and that the whole table waving at me as well as our snotty waitress could vouch for that; he didn't care. I explained to him that I wasn't even drinking and didn't intend to order a drink anyway; he didn't care. Now I understand that the law is the law, and I am not trying to cheat the system, but how about you card me when I first walk into your establishment instead of after I've been sitting there for an hour and have already placed an order???!! Fortunately I found my ID, but what if I hadn't? Would you have expected me to walk out without my dinner? Would you have charged my friends who were still at the table for my uneaten meal? Needless to say, I was livid. The food was tolerable. The steak was charred, but I guess some people like it that way. For me, just tasted like charcoal and anger. I will never go back to this place.

While I can only rate based on the happy hour menu, well, as far as that goes, it gets 5 stars in my book. We ordered 2 appetizers, the roasted red pepper (which is DELICIOUS) and the spinach artichoke dip (I've had, even made better dip). When one of my friends pulled out a thin piece of plastic (like a clear piece of tinsel), we let our server know and she came back to tell us that the dish had been taken off of our bill. Very nice on her part to automatically do it. If you're not familiar with the happy hour, it's M-F from 4pm-6pm, and it's through the restaurant, not just at the bar like some places (another bonus), and the most expensive thing on there is under $7. Granted, it doesn't have the full menu variety, but I was able to share an appetizer (actually 2, but one was free), had a chicken sandwich (with bacon AND cheese) with fries and a glass of wine and my total was $8.94. Show me a place where you can just get a sandwich and fries for that! Another plus was that our server took our appetizer and split it between the four of us, very convenient. And I thought my $5 glass of wine was reasonable, but then it showed $2.36 on the bill, even better! In these tough times and when people like me are scaling back it's nice to see a place that is offering quality food at excellent prices. Ambiance was nice as well, and the place wasn't too busy for a Friday evening.

The food at Oak City reminds me of a national chain's food. It's not bad- it's just very average, and for the price tag that comes with it, it's just not worth is. It could just be the dish I selected- Michigan BBQ Chicken. It was grilled chicken with BBQ sauce and cherries... for $16. I dined here with about 10 other people, and the waitress did a good job at keeping the drinks filled and the food came out in a timely fashion. With all of the other choices Royal Oak has to offer, I don't see myself coming back.

Went there last night before heading over to the RO Music Theatre. Made reservations for 11 people at 6:00 and table was all set up when we arrived. The rolls were warm and really good. A great start to what turned out to be a wonderful experience. Everyone loved what they had ordered!! From salads to pesto chicken, tilapia, pasta, pizza... It was all delicious!! Came out together and all perfect temperature. I would definitely go back!!!

As a Royal Oaker, I've hit every restaurant in town a number of times and keep going back Oak City Grille. The atmosphere is great and you can choose to dine in the "dark" (aged, dark wood tables in the bar area) or the "light" (white table cloths, non-smoking) side. They frequently have live music at night featuring local talent, and the stage is positioned in a fun way above/behind the bar area. But let's cut to what you care about: The food. Every meal I have had there has been top-notch, The filets have been excellent and the Michigan Cherry Chicken has been a sure-fire hit every time I have gone. I have had dinner with a number of newbies there who all said it was an excellent experience. It's really a hit in the summer since there are huge doors that open to the streets of Royal Oak - but it's still a great experience in the cooler months. My experience with the waitstaff has been great - no problems to report there... the drinks are there when you need them and the staff is conversational and friendly.

This place is like my Cheers. Much of the waitstaff usually make it a point to stop by our table and say hi. So yeah, my review is biased. Deal with it. OCG rules. I've had pretty much everything on the menu, so here are my picks: Best beef entree: Filet Best chicken entree: Oak City Chicken Best fish entree: Used to be the parmesan encrusted white fish, but that was recently taken off the menu, so now I'm not sure. Best pasta: Chicken Penne Best vegetarian entree: There's usually only one. Best appetizer: Three way tie between the roasted red pepper, the sirloin and the bre. The soups and salads are all good, but make sure to get the OCG salad only when tomatoes are in season. If the entertainment is too loud for you, go someplace where the entertainment is crappier and not the focus.

Usually a decent restaurant.......food, atmosphere. Unfortunately we had the bartender waiting on us today. She was more interested in her soda and the fact that her phone got wet than taking care of our table. It was to the point we called her out on it (2 other tables arriving after us were served prior to our receiving appetizer or bread and we never were revisited for refill of our diet soda). After finally receiving the appetizer, we told them that we were frustrated with the wait and would like to cancel the order. The bartender was coming out with the food (go figure) and tried to start a verbal sparring match about her attentiveness. Honestly, given the glares we'd received, we were apprehensive about eating anything she'd been around. Hope this issue is resolved for what is typically a solid restaurant.

I really like this place. A giant wrap-around old fashioned bar makes for a great ambiance along with wide open patio doors for al fresco dining, even while inside. I had a well-mixed Stoli martini with blue cheese stuffed olives and a plate of tortellini with chicken sausage in a spicy Cajun creme sauce. It was quite good. Others in our group were similarly pleased with their choices. I should mention we started with the roasted stuffed pepper, which was delicious. I wouldn't say that the entrees are quite that innovative. Nonetheless, all of the dishes seemed to be executed perfectly. The service was excellent. I'd return.

Oak City has good food, not great. Expect a solid meal, but nothing that takes your breathe away. But obviously we didn't try everything on the menu, so I could be missing something. The place has a nice feel to it. It is almost two places in one, with one side being a white table cloth dining and the other being a bar. I have yet to be here after dinner, but I can imagine that it would be a nice place to hang out. I would say that the food was a touch on the expensive side for what we got. Our table ordered an array of entrees ranging from steak to fish to pasta, with myself getting the pot roast. It was good, but not great. And that was the overall consensus of the table.

This was my second visit to OCG in Royal Oak. Once again I wasn't left disappointed! Which made me really happy! I met up about 15 people there on a Friday night for a friends birthday dinner. The restaurant took a reservation and was able to accommodate all of us. When I was seated I was immediately greeted by a server and offered a drink. There was live music on Friday night, so it was nice to enjoy something other than the radio. It was a one man show, a guy playing a guitar, and singing his heart out. It was nice to see someone playing music that had a passion for it! And we all really enjoyed him. Near the end of the dinner the place started getting pretty packed! I splitted and enjoyed the Cajun salmon sandwich! It was great and came with steak fries. Definitely enough to split when you are looking for a light meal. Even though the salmon probably was over an 8 ounce portion! This place also offers a great menu with many other things, like lemon chicken, seared rib-eye, and a chicken salad with walnuts, feta, and a balsamic vinaigrette. Everyone said their food was delicious. The reason they aren't getting 5 stars is because the service was slow(when it came to the food), there should of been 2 servers on a table of 15 eating and drinking. Another reason is that we were sweating to death! The bar has doors that open up, great for a nice summer night, but if you are inside eating dinner, you feel no air, and it is HOT! I would definitely visit this place again, could be a cute for a nice 1st date!

It's nice that Oak City Grille is a independently owned, not a chain restaurant. The location is great, and in the summer the windows open all the way right onto the street, giving it a really open feel. The inside is a dark wood kind of old club feel. The food is decent fare, american food with a nice selection of meat, pasta dishes and salads. Nothing I had was too memorable. The live music was good but bordered on a bit too loud. They are also very accommodating to groups as well.

I was not really wowed, nor was I disappointed the few times I've been to Oak City Grille. I enjoyed my pasta and key lime pie just fine, and the price was right. But, after my friends raved about this place, I guess I was expecting more. The live music was kind of absurd, and made it too loud for conversation. As a restaurant it would not draw me back, and as a bar it is definitely not my scene. Maybe in 10 years? Service was very good though, and decent drink list.

Oak City Grille is a place where you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere. I love how it's dim - with a romantic vibe to it. They have live bands - which usually consist of no more than 2 people on stage. The drinks are poured hard and you get he best out of your buck. I was disappointed with the food. I ordered a veggie pizza and it was horrible. I told them how horrible it was and they sent me fries on the house. Usually when I go there, I eat before or I leave knowing I am going somewhere else to go get food.

I absolutely love this place as a bar. I go on Thursday's and they have great live music and awesome service. The appetizers are good too! Definitely check this place out!

Wine is kept warm and is therefore oxidized. Band was terrible, and so loud and feedbacked we couldn't talk.

This one of my favorite spots to eat.. So I chose it for my Birthday celebration this year and I wasn't disappointed! The food is always great and they accommodated my 15person party well. The only complaint is they left the doors open so it was very hott!!

I will have to say.....the BBQ is delicious but very expensive. I had carry out- full slab of ribs (baby back) they were tiny, I was very upset when I opened the box. Usually when you order a full slab its way more than enough for 2 people , but to my surprise it was enough maybe for one person. It's hard to give them 5 stars overall because of that reason, but as far as taste... it is very good (5 stars).

Food is not the best ever, and is overpriced for the so-so quality. Service is mediocre--the waitress I had when we were there with a group of friends got very annoyed that we were not ordering more drinks, and ignored us for most of the night because of that.

Oak City is a pretty good restaurant. It's got a nice set up, large bar, live music, and a pretty good food menu. I do think some of the dishes are hit or miss, but overall, I enjoy the food. Even more so, I like the live music. Without that, I'd give this place 3 stars. They regularly have local bands perform live on the stage right behind the bar. They bring in acts many nights out of the week, so it's not hard to catch a show. With not a lot of places in the area to grab some food, have a few drinks, and get a show, Oak City gets a bump up to 4 stars.

Not the friendliest place in Royal Oak. I sat at the bar with some peeps for a round of drinks. The bartendress was very cold. She made us feel like we didn't belong. I mean, we weren't scrubbing by any means, but we weren't dolled up either. Just got a bad vibe from there. I looked at the menu. Hmm, not too creative. If we were treated a little better I'm sure I would have ordered something, but I just wanted to get out of there!
